Frequently Asked Questions

You will be asked to complete a number of questionnaires before the assessment. These questionnaires will be sent and received back electronically. Your informant ( someone who knows you from childhood or has known you for a good period during adult life) will also need to complete a questionnaire.

The psychiatrist will have already studied the information submitted by you in the pre-consultation forms. The assessment consists of a semi-structured interview probing the main areas of functioning that are usually involved in ADHD; this is called the DIVA (the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults). The scores for Inattention and Hyperactivity/Impulsivity  yielded are mapped against internationally agreed diagnostic thresholds. Information is gathered about other areas of life which include general mental wellbeing and impact of ADHD symptoms on various domains of life.

At the end of assessment the psychiatrist will inform you about their opinion on diagnosis.

If you have been diagnosed with ADHD, you will be seen for a follow up appointment to discuss the diagnosis and medication options available. A treatment plan will be agreed to commence you on medication titration.

This is a process through which right medication to treat your ADHD started and gradually increased to the right dose  while ensuring one does not suffer with any severe or intolerable side effects. The process involves sending readings of your pulse, blood pressure and weight at least once a week in addition to providing information on any untoward side effects. A follow up appointment at month 1 will be arranged to discuss progress and any concerns.

You will be seen by your consultant for a review to ensure everything is set to transfer the care back to your GP.
